What Is a Tag Management System?
A Tag Management System (TMS) is a platform, such as Google Tag Manager or Adobe Launch, used to deploy and manage tags across a website without editing site code directly. A TMS lets marketing and analytics teams add, update, or remove tracking tags through a web interface instead of a developer ticket.
A TMS decouples tag changes from the site’s codebase: tags are configured in a container, reviewed through GTM Preview Mode or similar staging tools, and pushed live independently. That convenience is also the risk: because tags can be added without engineering review, a TMS container can accumulate Rogue Pixels and misconfigured tags nobody is actively monitoring.
