What Is PII Scanning?

PII scanning is the automated process of continuously checking a website's tags and data transmissions for personally identifiable information, flagging any instance where PII is sent to a third party without appropriate consent. It's the ongoing, monitoring counterpart to a one-time payload inspection.

A single payload inspection tells you what’s leaking today; PII scanning is what catches it when a new leak appears next month after a marketing team adds a new tag, or a developer changes a form field. Running it continuously, rather than as a one-off audit, turns privacy compliance from a point-in-time exercise into an ongoing guarantee, since tag configurations change constantly and nobody reliably remembers to re-check them by hand.
