What Is Advanced Matching?

Advanced Matching is a Meta Pixel feature that automatically detects when a user types an email address or phone number into any form field on a page, not only Meta-branded forms, and transmits that data to Meta to improve ad matching, even when the form itself has nothing to do with advertising.

What makes Advanced Matching worth understanding on its own is how quietly it operates: it isn’t limited to a checkout form a developer configured, it scans form input broadly. A newsletter signup or a support contact form can trigger it. Because the data it captures is personal by definition, Payload Inspection of a site running the Meta Pixel needs to specifically check whether Advanced Matching is active and what fields it’s picking up.
