What Is Data Assurance?

Data assurance is the practice of continuously verifying that a website's analytics tags, consent behavior, and data layer are accurate and compliant, before problems reach production and before they become compliance liabilities. It combines tag accuracy, privacy compliance, consent validation, and data layer integrity into a single discipline.

Data assurance sits at the intersection of two functions usually handled separately: analytics QA (does data collection work?) and privacy compliance (is it legal?). A tag that fires correctly but transmits PII without consent isn’t a success, and a CMP that blocks a banner but lets a tag leak Query Parameters isn’t compliant. Data assurance differs from traditional Data Governance, which focuses on policy and data at rest, by focusing on what happens the moment a tag fires on a live page.
